The HD Chevrolet truck is a heavy-duty version of their light truck lineup. It is a structurally stronger version of the Silverado light-duty pickup, and is available in the 1500HD, 2500HD, and 3500 series. The HD variant was introduced in 2001. Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD Regular Cab Engines for sale at below dealer costs right now.
The Silverado 2500HD is available in regular, extended and crew cab designs, with a long or short wheelbase. Available in rear wheel drive only or four-wheel drive.
Standard on all Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD pickups is a 6.0-liter Vortec gasoline V8 that makes 360 horsepower, bolted to a six-speed automatic transmission.
An appealing option for more power is the re-engineered Duramax 6.6-liter turbo-diesel V8 making 397 hp and a whopping 765 ft.-lb. of torque. Torque is a better rating of power for diesel engines. This truck motor is combined with a beefier Allison six-speed automatic [truck] transmission.
Further minor updates for 2005. These trucks came in standard, Work Truck [WT] [after 2003] LS and LT trim levels. The standard/base engine was also the 6.0-liter V8 that made 300 horsepower based on emission changes. So, there were two optional engines for this truck line, for those who wanted more power: an 8.1-liter [522 cubic inches, the largest gasoline engine in the world] gasoline V8 producing 340 hp, and a 6.6-liter turbo-diesel producing 300 hp and 520 lb-ft.
This 6.6 liter diesel was upgraded in 2006 for more power [360 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque], added technical refinements and lower emission levels. A five-speed manual transmission was standard with the 6.0-liter motor with a four-speed automatic transmissions with lock up was optional. The 8.1-liter V8 and the 6.6-liter diesel came with either a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic.
Don’t compromise an excellent HD work-truck. I own a Silverado Pickup truck, it is not a HD series, it is older than that. I happen to love my truck and would never consider replacing it if the engine fails. My personal choice would be a remanufactured engine based on the cost to lifespan. The cost is quite inexpensive when one considers how long a quality re-manufactured motor will last, not to mention the extra horsepower from a new motor.
Buying a correctly re-manufactured engine with all of the factory approved updates incorporated in the process, and using factory original or better parts results in a more powerful and better running engine than the factory put in it new.
